“Once Upon a Mattress” is coming to the Regent stage for three performances the weekend of March 7-9. Both Friday and Saturday shows will be at 7 p.m. and a Sunday matinee performance will be at 3 p.m.
Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain played by senior Lily Hall, decreed no couples could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless, played by junior Brayson Saunders, found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide to win the hand of the prince, but none could pass the impossible tests given to them by the Queen. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone, played by junior Laney Breig, showed up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larken, played by junior Alivia Sides, and Sir Harry, played by sophomore Charles Carl, to the altar?
This comic masterpiece, based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea,” is filled with witty, charming, and wonderfully romantic songs and dance numbers composed by Mary Rodgers. This year’s show is directed by Gerri Colvin, Jean Sears, and Peggy Berlin.
SHOW CREDITS: Music by Mary Rodgers, lyrics by Marshall Barer, and book by Jay Thompson, Dean Fuller & Marshall Barer. “Once Upon a Mattress” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals.
