When you are a Meals on Wheels volunteer, you are delivering much more than a nutritious meal – you are delivering wellness checks and caring contact. For many of our homebound seniors, you will be the only person they see or talk to all day.
A typical volunteer shift takes about an hour to complete. Your time volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa will have a profound impact on many lives, including your own. And that feels good. Because when you do good, you feel good.
We have a variety of volunteer opportunities to choose from.
Meal Delivery: Deliver seven frozen meals to a short route of clients
- Delivery begins at 11:00a.m. and ends at 1:00pm– Weekdays only
- Monday: Broken Arrow, Bixby, Sand Springs, Southwest Tulsa County, and Sapulpa
- Tuesday: Northwest Tulsa
- Wednesday: Southside
- Thursday: Eastside and Owasso
- Friday: Midtown and Downtown
- Must have smartphone – volunteers will use mobile meals app for calls
- Must have email and text messaging.
Meal Packers: Volunteers pack prepared meals into insulated bags for Meal Delivery volunteers.
Volunteer Site Leader:
- Volunteers lead a team of Meal Delivery volunteers and packers to successfully deliver the mission of Meals on Wheels at their assigned distribution site
- Site Leaders are comfortable using technology and assisting with scheduling
Wellness Check Calls:
- Make calls to a short list of Meals on Wheels Clients to check in on their general wellbeing
- This opportunity is available seven days a week
- Calls are made between 9:00a.m. and 7:00p.m. from your own home
- Must have smartphone – volunteers will use mobile meals app for calls
- Must have email and text messaging
PAWS (Pets Assisting Wellness in Seniors)
Pet Care Assistance:
- Deliver pet food on the 3rd Saturday of the month
- Transport pets to and from veterinary appointments
Home Safety Projects: This is a flexible opportunity with weekday, evening, and weekend opportunities. Assist with small home repairs, lawn care, and other home safety needs. Hours vary by project
Group Volunteering:
Volunteering with Meals on Wheels encourages teamwork and can be a great way of improving communications across departments and between employees and supervisors.
